Due to strategic human resources planning, NewGround has decided to identify, recruit and select a Director of Design with at least 10 years experience working for a leading retail design firm. The successful candidate we seek will be responsible for the translation of the brand strategy into design strategy, conceptualization of design, design refinement, and design development. He/she should be creative and artistic, with the ability to solve problems through visualization. The primary goal of the Director of Design is, together with the firm’s design staff, facilitate the creation of innovative and spatially sensitive design solutions, which will contribute to the overall success of NewGround’s clients. He/she will provide direction and leadership to 9 design staff members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes the primary responsibility for the development of the design concepts during the programming through design development phases of the project; participates in the preparation of details, furniture and fixtures and has oversight of construction documents.
- Participate in marketing, proposal development, interviews and design presentations.
- Work with other NewGround team members to produce quality design within the parameters set forth by the client’s goals and budget.
- Provide direction and leadership to all design staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ten or more years of progressive retail design and store planning experience with a portfolio of work to support this.
- Supervisory experience desired.
- High level of conceptual design talent.
- Expertise in materials and processes of architectural design.
- Strong communication and presentations skills.
- Past experience working in a team oriented environment, both internal personnel and external consultants.
- Proven success at multi project and multi task management.
- Graduate of an accredited program in architecture or interior design.
- Architectural registration required.
