NewGround’s Roger McFarland Receives Outstanding Eagle Scout Award

Program Director demonstrates a career in both professional and scouting achievements

CHESTERFIELD, Mo., June 23, 2017 – NewGround, a St. Louis-based experiential design-build firm, recently celebrated Program Director Roger McFarland’s achievement in earning the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, distributed by the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA).

More than 500 Boy Scouts of America volunteers gathered at an annual dinner to recognize those who exemplify a prestigious career in both professional achievement at the local, state or regional level and outstanding scouting achievement as an adult. Fewer than 1800 awards have been conferred since its origin in 2010.

“It’s a true honor to receive the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award,” said Roger McFarland, NewGround Program Director. “I was pleased to share this moment with other outstanding volunteers in a special night of recognition and camaraderie.”

Roger is an accomplished architect who has been recognized for various leadership roles, including working as the Architect of Record for the $100 million expansion of the St. Louis Art Museum. This project received the International Award presented by the Royal Institute of British Architects, given to only 24 recipients worldwide, with just four in North America. Roger’s other notable work includes leading master planning the St. Louis Science Center, along with the attainment of numerous American Institute of Architects Honor Awards.

“At NewGround, it is profoundly important we dedicate time giving back to the communities in which we serve,” said Chip Nix, Senior Vice President of Build Operations, “and we are proud that Roger—as well as many of our staff members—make it their personal mission to make a difference by building communities. We commend Roger for earning the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award.”

Volunteering his architectural skills, Roger designed The Eagle Range, a combined trap and skeet shooting range at S-F Scout Ranch in Farmington, Missouri donated by the St. Louis Eagle Scout Association. Roger is a lifetime member of both the St. Louis Eagle Scout Association and the NESA. He is also a merit badge counselor for architecture, swimming and back packing, the STEM Leader for the Architecture Merit Badge and Eagle Scout Association Eagle Recognition Chair.

In 2013, Roger was also awarded the Silver Beaver, the highest honor a local council can present an adult volunteer.

Roger is an accredited architect by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is licensed in four states.
